Performance Shifter Assembly for Pontiac Solstice

I was never a fan of the OEM setup. Nothing wrong with it, but it just didn't stand out. The JPM kit really dresses up the interior.

It probably took me about 45 minutes to install. I used a heat gun on the screw which came loose with a bit of persuasion using a standard 'L' allen wrench. It was interesting that the balance weight on the stock shaft had a fair amount of corrosion which was staining the insulation pad. No big deal but a bit of a surprise.

That being said, I love my JPM set up.

Knob: 2" black copolymer with white shift pattern. I debated between the 2" and 2-1/4". The 2" is a shade smaller than the stock leather covered unit. I have average sized hands and I like the 2", but I suspect I would have been satisfied with the larger unit too. Maybe I'll get a 2-1/4" white knob later just for a change of pace.

The knob is not highly polished, more of a dull shine which is exactly what I wanted. Heavier than you might expect (read more below). Nice retro look and beautiful finish.

Boot: Black leather w/tan stitching. The leather is thicker and has more of a luxurious look & feel than the OEM boot. The tan stitching looks great with my tan seat inserts.

The OEM assembly is significantly heavier than the JPM kit. However, the copolymer knob is heavier than you might expect which gives it a a better balance in my opinion.

I installed with the shaft spacer in the lower position. I was a bit concerned with the small (half inch?) gap from the top of the boot to the bottom of the knob. I was considering remounting with the boot UNDER the shaft chamfer to get a bit more exposed shaft. After using it a few days I may keep it as-is since the round knob tends to make me grip from the top, rather from the side like I usually did with the OEM setup. I think that's a good thing since it's a more positive motion pushing into the shift gate.

I would have preferred a chrome shaft sleeve to match the rest of the interior brightwork, so I'm going to poke around hardware stores to see if I can find some kind of chromed stock (or applique) that I can cut down to fit.

In any case, the kit is well worth the time and money. I like the feel better than OEM and I love the look. Makes me smile every time I look at it.
